RED CHAMPIONS | NOW DISBANDED.
Redefining elite dressage
COMPETITION TEAM
The RC Comp team is a team of the cheerios with the highest dressage skills. Below is all information regarding the comp team: how to join, how lessons will work, and how you may be taken off the team.
WHAT IS THE COMP TEAM?
The comp team, CT for short, is a team of cheerios who have met a set of high-level requirements and passed a difficult tryout. They are the pool of potential cheerios who can compete and also primarily perform in open shows, youtube videos, etc. The team focuses more on the routines and details of dressage instead of fundamentals, because getting on the team requires that you have already mastered them.
HOW DO I JOIN THE COMP TEAM?
To join the team, you must meet a set of requirements and pass a tryout. Trying out and passing is the only way to get on the comp team. The tryout is very similar to the dressage part of a rank-up test, except that instead of being one-on-one, everyone who tries out goes at once. The judging is also much more strict. See the calendar or ask an HR when the next tryouts will be hosted.
WHAT ARE THE CT REQUIREMENTS?
⟶ Be level 18+ (preferably level 20+ - work towards this!)
⟶ Own the full club uniform
⟶ Have at least 1 of the club horses, maxed. Preferably have both, though it is not required in order to join CT
⟶ Have stable care or keep your horse(s) happy at all times
⟶ Be ranked EXP rider in order to test
⟶ Been fully active for the last 2 weeks preceding the tryout
⟶ You do not necessarily have to not tested in those last 2 weeks. You could have ranked up to EXP rider 5 days before the tryout and you would still be allowed to try out.
⟶ Know all of our current dressage forms & techniques (you must pass the tryout to join)
⟶ Communicate clearly and speedily with HRs when you're contacted
⟶ Be and continue to be an active, participating member of the club.
HOW DOES THE TRYOUT WORK?
See the monthly calendar to find the next tryout date. Only those who meet the requirements or are already on the team are allowed to participate, though all ranks are allowed to come and watch. The tryout itself is a difficult dressage form and technique test, lead by Light or another RC HR.
The tryout consists of 30 dressage forms (2 halts, 6 follow, 3 circle, 4 basic, 10 intermediate, and 5 advanced forms) randomly pulled from the dressage directory, so everything on there is fair game. During the dressage, there will be no corrections or reminders given (such as in obliques, "obliques set, A's comb B's curl into comb the italics would not be said, and the host won't say things like "Light tap up"). Moves can be redone up to 3 times total, after that mistakes count negatively towards passing. After all 30 forms have been done, we will go in an attendance line and the host will give results down the line as well as the reason why everyone did/n't pass and how to improve for next time if applicable.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I PASS THE TRYOUT?
If you pass, you make it into the comp team, and if we decide to split during lessons you will be with the rest of the comp team, working on the upcoming routine/forms/projects. You will also be given the Champion rank. However, this doesn't mean your learning of our dressage is over- you likely have things to still improve on! Keep attending lessons with purpose and be a role model for other cheerios/students. If you're looking to become an HR of some kind, your chances are now raised by a large margin.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL THE TRYOUT?
If you fail, you will be given some things to work on for you to pass next time. Commonly these are not correcting fundamentals or not knowing the higher-skill level forms/newer forms. Everyone has an infinite amount of tries to tryout, so keep trying!
HOW MIGHT I GET KICKED OFF THE TEAM?
It is possible to be kicked from the comp team, mainly for the same reasons as those for getting ranked down or kicked from the club. If you become inactive, you may be taken off of the comp team and ranked down. If you cause drama, you may be taken off the team as punishment (if it was major drama, you would be removed completely). Being removed from the team may be temporary or permanent depending on your offense, and you may or may not have to try out again in order to return. If you want to leave the comp team because it's too stressful or for whatever reason, that is completely allowed. Leaving or being removed from the comp team will take away your Champion rank.
IS THERE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THE TEAM?
Nope!
DO I NEED TO TRYOUT? IS IT REQUIRED TO BE ON THE COMP TEAM?
No. If you don't want to be on the team, you probably won't be able to compete, but you are by no means required to join. If you don't want to try out, don't! There's no shame in staying on the general team. Passing the tryout is currently the only way to join the team-- however, you may be asked to compete even if you aren't on the comp team if we need more people in line, also known as being on a PCG (potentially competing group). If this is the case you will be fully prepared during lessons a few weeks leading up to the comp. It is still possible to participate in other projects such as public performances and youtube videos without being on CT, but again, this is rare, due to a lack of available members.
DO I GAIN ANY SPECIAL PRIVILEGES BY BEING ON THE COMP TEAM?
Aside from priority in competitions, youtube videos, and other performances, the only other special thing that comes along with CT is a raised chance to become an RC/S HR, if that's something you would like to pursue! It's encouraged that CT members learn to command for the added skill that comes with it, and being on CT and being a commander is even better than just one of those things in terms of the likelihood of an HR promotion. But, all members are allowed to learn how to command and get the same opportunities to do so.
